I know the Internet, but what's an Intranet??

The Internet is international in its reach, but what if you don't really want to have the world pounding on your door, but you want to have the capability to share information just for your company? Your answer is an Intranet.

While the traditional company LAN is used to share resources such as disk drives and printers, and to have email, with the addition of some basic software (most of it may be free), you can supply your own HTML documents, just like any site on the WWW.

Gaining experience and expertise with your Intranet will make you ready for the time you may decide to hook your LAN to the Internet.

Running your own Web Server can give your Company a common point for distributing memos, employee manuals, even software upgrades, along with detailed instructions on how to install it.
